I grew up in youngsville, nc
A small town where many of the women in my community were seamstresses. Many of them, including my mother, made their career in sewing factories. My earliest memories of sewing was watching both my grandmothers and grandfather with either a needle and thread or a crochet needle in their hands. Yes, even my grandfather! In my little eyes, I viewed him as a crafty man. Sewing shoes and hemming his garments. Inevitably, I developed the passion for watching fabric come to life and eventually began working as a seamstress for several years in the local sewing factory, Tom Togs. My plans to attend college, become a Fashion Designer and use those skills to build my mother's brand were detoured. Instead I chose to major in Business with a concentration in Management and built a career as a State Administrative Officer.
Peggie’s Place
My first official noteworthy garment was a green A-line style dress I made in my high school home economics class in which I scored an “A”. At that time, I thought that was the most outstanding thing I had ever accomplished. My love for sewing was developed after years of watching my beautiful mother, Peggie, skillfully design her own patterns, cut out garments and piece them together; sometimes all in one day. From suits to curtains, costume and wedding gowns, you name it-she did it. I watched and I learned. My mother developed a large clientele of customers. With so many people in and out of our home for her services, daddy would jokingly say, “I can’t find a space in this house anymore”. He would tell everyone “This is Peggie’s Place”. I still own one of her sewing machines and now live in our family home and I still have that same passion for watching fabric come to life. In 2012, heaven became my mother’s new place. But today a portion of the knowledge she passed down can still be found here at Peggie’s Place Alterations & Boutique.
